History Happening Now
The Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts( MVCPA) launched its 35th anniversary year with an artist reception and moderated discussion with San Francisco artist Donald Hershman. He is completing his transition from podiatric surgeon to full-time artist with exhibitions throughout the region. See his work at https:// donhershman. com /

selected by the Visual Arts Committee. This event was a pilot program born from a collaboration between the Downtown, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts Committees. Plans are being finalized for the Center’ s August 35th anniversary event.

Community Outreach
Walking on Castro—
Three walking tours for Stevenson
School third graders were conducted by Pamela Baird in February. Prior to the walks on Castro Street, Pamela presented a forty-minute program at the school to preview and explain the history of early Mountain View. After the walk the students visited City Hall to learn more about our community.
Patentholders of MV presented to SIR—
The March monthly meeting of SIR( Sons in Retirement) featured Pamela Baird presenting a program about patentholders of Mountain View. The presentation covered patents issued between 1868 and the 1950s.
Prior to the start of the program, a singing group serenaded those attending with a fun song preview of some of the inventions— the first time we have been introduced with music!

MVHA and the MV Library teamed up to produce a hands-on STEAM program that introduced kids to real patents created in Mountain View. Librarian Renee Kidson created fun stations for participants to test their creativity. Elena Lopez and Pamela Baird explained the features of the diving suit patented by Jean DeRay.
