MVHA Board Updates
By Pamela Baird & Nick Perry MVHA President & MVHA Past President
At the MVHA November general membership meeting , President Pamela Baird , Vice President Robert Cox , Treasurer Emily Ramos , and Secretary Jamil Shaikh were reelected to their positions .
Candace Bowers
We also said a fond “ farewell ” to two board members : Candace Bowers and Mark Perry . Mark has served on the board as Ways & Means Chair since 2019 . Candace irst joined the board in 2014 , serving as Vice President ( 2014-15 ), President ( 2016-17 ) and Historical Data Committee Chair ( 2018-2022 ), in addition to many years stafing the Mountain View History Center as a employee of the library . We thank them both for the years of volunteer service on the board ! They both remain active members and we look forward to seeing them at future MVHA events .
The vacancies have prompted us to reevaluate the board positions deined by our organization ’ s bylaws , which have not been updated since 2010 . Working with the remaining active members of the 2021-22 board , the oficers plan to consider
Mark Perry revisions for portions of the
bylaws that govern membership , standing committee chair and director-at-large roles , quorum deinitions and how amendments can be made . We feel these changes are needed to make the bylaws more relevant and have committees relect the current needs of the organization .
Currently , changes to the bylaws may be made at a regular or special noticed general membership meeting , provided that the changes have been proposed at the preceding meeting . Notice must be given to each member at least ten days prior to the date of that meeting . At the February 5 meeting , the board plans to announce the proposed changes . Most likely a special Zoom meeting of the membership will be called in early March so that the changes can be approved by the membership . Approval by two-thirds ( 2 / 3 ) of those attending is necessary for passage . If a special meeting is not called , the voting will be conducted at the May 7 general meeting .
Once the changes to the bylaws are made , we will proceed with illing the remaining board positions . In the meanwhile , our 2021-22 board members who have not stepped down remain acting in their roles . We encourage all members to consider joining the board . It ’ s a great way to support MVHA and the community ! All members are welcomed to contact us with any thoughts or questions at info @ mountainviewhistorical . org .

MVHA Project Updates
By Nicholas Perry MVHA Past President
The MVHA is currently working on a few interesting projects , some of which have been shared in previous editions of this newsletter . Read on for some quick updates !
Chinatown Interpretive Placard . The City of Mountain View is planning to install a interpretive sign at the historic location of Mountain View ’ s Chinatown , near the intersection of Villa and View streets in Downtown Mountain View . MVHA Board Members are helping city staff research the history of Chinatown , combing through the archives at the History Center to provide accurate information on this unique area ’ s history . The timeline for installation of the sign is to-be-determined , so stay tuned for more information .
Yuen Lung Store in Chinatown
New MVHA Website . Our current website , graciously designed for us pro-bono in 2018 by former board member Melissa Wright , has served us well , but is due for a major refresh . We have hired a professional web designer to update the page , and are working on the inishing touches as we speak . The new page will look similar to our current page , but with an update interface that will make it easier for members to use for things like membership renewals (... annual members , don ’ t forget to renew !) and easier for board members to update with new content . We look forward to unveiling the new site soon , so keep an eye out for its debut at the same address : www . mountainviewhistorical . org .
MV Eagles Monument . Fundraising and planning continues for creating a monument at Eagle Park that celebrates the Mountain View High School Eagles and their historic 1975 football team championship . So far , the monument committee has raised $ 5,000 and continues to accept donations through the MVHA . For further information or if
