Our Winter 2021 Event
50 years ago , a front-page article in Electronic News bestowed upon our area what has proved to be an enduring nickname : “ Silicon Valley .” To celebrate this milestone , we are very excited to welcome David Laws from the Computer History Museum , Nikki Lowy from Google , and Brooke Ray Smith from Lendlease as our guest speakers at our Winter 2021 Membership Meeting & Event . Mr . Laws will share a presentation on the history of Silicon Valley and the role companies in Mountain View ’ s East Whisman District played during the early years of the valley ’ s role as the center of the technology industry . Ms . Lowy and Ms . Smith will then offer us a glimpse into the East Whisman ’ s future and share information on Google ’ s long-term plans for the reimagining and redevelopment of this area rich in Silicon Valley history . This event is free to MVHA members and open to non-members with a small suggested donation .

David Laws
Based on his fi fty-year career in marketing and general management roles for Silicon Valley high-tech companies , David Laws tells stories of the pioneering days of the computer chip business . He serves as semiconductor curator for the Computer History Museum and his work has appeared in numerous broadcast , electronic , and print media outlets from the BBC and NPR , to mobile apps , guidebooks , newspapers , magazines , and academic journals ,
Nikki Lowy
Brooke Ray Smith
Nikki Lowy and Brooke Ray Smith are the Community Engagement Managers for Google ’ s East Whisman and North Bayshore projects . Nikki has a background in partnership development , working at the intersection of real estate and education . Prior to joining Google , Nikki worked with local school districts to help educators buy homes and build fi nancial security .
Brooke Ray is with Lendlease , Google ’ s real estate development partner helping Google fulfi ll its regional $ 1B housing commitment to build 20,000 new homes across the Bay Area . Brooke Ray has a background in public placemaking and community engagement , having led nonprofi ts focused on creating and improving parks and public spaces in San Francisco , and prior to that working with a creative investment group focused on making downtown Los Altos more vibrant .
