The search for the oldest resident of Mountain View has concluded .
Board member Carol Donahue , who has organized this outreach effort , reports that she is interviewing Gold , Silver and Bronze finalists in our senior Olympics . They include people born in 1920 , 1922 and 1923 . MVHA will announce its decision soon . Exercise , loving relationships , hard work , love of nature , and resilience are common threads of their longevity . Our elders are living what science is telling us to do now to live to enjoy a long life .

MVHA relies on membership dues to cover the cost of insurance , newsletter publication , history event costs and outreach efforts . You can renew through the website or by returning the form shown in this newsletter .
Board Elections 2024
Per our by-laws , every two years four positions are elected by the members attending the fall November 3 event . Those positions are — president , vice president , secretary , and treasurer and form the Executive Committee . Nominations may also be made from the floor at the annual meeting November 3 .
Additional board positions are appointed by the executive committee in the December Board meeting . The MVHA encourages and welcomes interested members to get involved with our Board . If you are interested in serving on the board , please contact : info @ mountainviewhistorical . org by the end of October .

Community Happenings

Members of the MVHA board of directors have been busy attending community events . Over the past five months we have participated in numerous neighborhood social gatherings and ice cream socials . We have enjoyed talking to people in the following neighborhoods-Old Mountain View , Monta Loma , Cuesta Park , Shoreline West , Varsity Park and
Wagon Wheel .
In July we participated for the first time in the Technology Showcase . Presented by the Chamber of Commerce and held in the Civic Center Plaza , the event was a great way to interact with participants having varied interests . IdaRose Sylvester , Neil Hendin , Pamela Baird , Greg Unangst and Melanie Kaye conducted research about patents holders of Mountain View . The group was surprised about

how much information was learned about early patents holders . Melanie created wonderful graphics explaining various patents .
MVHA participated in the Volunteer Fair held at the Community Center August 24 . Melanie Kaye and Pamela Baird spoke to many people about MVHA and the volunteer opportunities available with our organization .

The Fall Harvest Festival held at
Heritage Park September 21 was a fun event for the board . Interested members of the community asked questions about the origins of agriculture and how the area grew rapidly between 1950-1960 . The Festival was well attended with many families visiting .

Walking tours of downtown Mountain View continue to be a popular outreach effort . The tours are conducted on the fourth Sunday of most months . In both May and June , fifteen people participated in the two hour walk .
The next tours are scheduled for November 24 and December 22 . The tours will be listed on our website and on EventBrite . Registration is required .
