A MESSAGE FROM THE ORGANISERS
Welcome to Mpumalanga!
Mining & Technical Exhibitions (MTE) are gearing up for triple
barrel exhibitions in Mpumalanga. The team will be in three
parts of the province ready to bring buyer and supplier together
in a unique way.
The first show will be in Witbank (Ogies) on 3 April 2017. This
coal-mining town is 29km south-west of Witbank and 70km
north-east of Springs. Visitors expected at this expo include
coal mines, power stations and surrounding industries. African
Exploration Mining and Finance Corporation built its first coal
mine at Vlakfontein, near Ogies, which was completed in January
2011. It mainly supplies coal to nearby Kendal power station.
The second show is in one of the largest coal reserves in
Africa and the world, Matla. The Matla Coal Mine has coal
reserves totalling 297.3 million tonnes of coking coal.
It is a fully mechanised underground mine employing
continuous mining and short-wall methods. Visitors
include Matla Coal Mine, Matla Power Station, Kriel Coal
Mine and Kriel Power Station.
The last show will be in Secunda. Built amid the coalfields of
South Africa’s Mpumalanga province, Secunda rose from the
ashes of the 1973 oil crisis when the powers-that-be made
the decision to be less dependent on oil. Today, South Africa
is one of the seven largest coal-producing countries and one
of the top five coal-exporting countries in the world. Coal
mines, collieries and energy and chemical companies will be
visiting the expo.

the-line mining and industrial equipment to showcase their
goods to a community hungry for new technology, services
and information – right on its doorstep.
