A MESSAGE FROM THE ORGANISERS Welcome to Limpopo! C ome the beginning of August, Mining and Technical Exhibitions (MTE) will be in the north of South Africa with two exhibitions scheduled for 1 and 3 August 2017. The first stop will be Mogalakwena on 1 August, which is close to Mokopane town in Limpopo province. As the area is situated in the Bushveld Mineral Complex, it is rich in ore deposits and other minerals including chromium, platinum, tin and titanium among others. Mogalakwena mine is among the many visitors that are expected at the exhibition in Mogalakwena. The mine is considered the largest open pit platinum mine in the world with five open pits which have various depths from 45m to 245m. Mogalakwena’s life of mine is expected to continue until at least 2060. The Platreef project, which is currently being developed by Ivanhoe Mines is found in the Mogalakwena area, and is also expected to visit the exhibition. MTE will move onto Lephalale on 3 August 2017. Formerly known as Ellisras, Lephalale is a mining town that lies east of the Waterberg Coalfield and Boikarabelo Coal Mine is one of the mines in Lephalale. The mine has about 744.8Mt of coal reserves, with a coal seem that lies between 20m to 30m below the surface. Medupi and Matimba power stations are also located in Lephalale and these coal-fired power stations rely on the coal generated from mines around the area, to produce electricity. Grootegeluk coal mine and the Waterberg coal project are other coal mines located in Lephalale. For those who are not familiar with MTE, this travelling exhibition company has been running for over two decades, providing a unique platform for suppliers of top-of-the-line mining and industrial equipment to showcase their goods to a community hungry for latest technology, services and information – right on its doorstep. We trust the expo will be a rewarding experience – whether you are visiting or exhibiting. However, we are always open to suggestions as to how we can make future expos even more accommodating for you and your business.
