MTE Catalogues Matla 2018 | Page 3

A MESSAGE FROM THE ORGANISER WELCOME TO MATLA! Mining and Technical Exhibitions (MTE) is travelling once again, this time to Matla. On 8 March 2018, the Matla Coal Sports Field will be busy with activity between 13:00 and 17:00. Situated some 20km west of Kriel in Mpumalanga, South Africa, this mining complex comprises three mines producing 14Mtpa of power station coal with a workforce of over 2 500 permanent employees and contractors. The Matla mining complex is a fully mechanised underground mine employing continuous mining and shortwall methods. The thermal coal is supplied to Eskom’s Matla power station. The mine has a coal reserve base of 224.3Mt and a resource (inclusive) of 1 008Mt. Other operations invited to the Matla expo include Kriel Power Station and the Kriel Colliery. The power station has been in operation since 1979 and has six units that each generate 500MW. Kriel was one of the first stations to be supplied with coal from a fully mechanised coal mine, with the coal arriving at the boilers from the mine — untouched by hand. Kriel Colliery was established in 1975 to provide coal for Eskom’s Kriel Power Station and the coal is mined from both open pit and underground mining operations. A show of this calibre has countless opportunities for both visitors and exhibitors. Visitors have an opportunity to get first-hand knowledge on products or services displayed by exhibitors and can see how some products work via live demonstrations at the expo. Exhibitors have an opportunity to get potential business leads and establish potentially fruitful relationships. Being at a location close the actual mine is an added advantage for exhibitors as they can get exclusive information on the industry to give them the edge on their competitors, so they can plan for the future based on the knowledge they gain from the exhibition. For those who are not familiar with MTE, this travelling exhibition company has been running for over two decades, providing a unique platform for suppliers of top- of-the-line mining and industrial equipment to showcase their goods to a community hungry for new technology, services and information – right on its doorstep. We trust the expo will be a rewarding experience – whether you are visiting or exhibiting. However, we are always open to suggestions as to how we can make future expos even more accommodating for you and your business. If you are a potential exhibitor or visitor interested in coal mining, then this is the perfect exhibition for you. The MTE team puts a lot of effort into this exhibition to ensure that it is structured for the right audience.
