New Recognition for Commencement

In addition to honoring the Valedictorian and Salutatorian at the Graduation Ceremony, other high academic achieving students will be recognized through the Laude System.

Students with a grade point average of 3.95 and above will be Summa Cum Laude and wear purple cords with their graduation gown. Students with a grade point average of 3.8-3.94 will be Magna Cum Laude and wear maroon cords with their graduation gown. Students with a grade point average of 3.67-3.79 will be Cum Laude and wear green cords with their graduation gown. This type of recognition has been recognized at the college and university level for many years and has been recognized at the high school level in recent years.

Conversations will continue regarding weighted grade point average. We appreciate the survey answers parents and students offered as a foundation for our conversations. The next discussions will involve courses to consider and the weighted amount to consider.
