Choose your own adventure
Mt Stirling is a mountain like no other. Just three hours from Melbourne but a world away
from the everyday, authentic alpine adventure awaits - you just have to be in the know.
There’s a quiet at Mt Stirling that sets the tone for relaxing,
recharging, discovering and disconnecting. Powered
by hydro-electricity and with no lift infrastructure or
commercial accommodation, listen carefully and all you’ll
hear is the Alpine Ash creaking gently, birdsong lilting
through the air and the crunch of snow underfoot. This
incredible natural setting provides the perfect backdrop
for alpine adventures - take your pick!
Powder bowls
Untouched terrain offers powder bowls where you really
earn your turns. Head out alpine touring and backcountry
snowboarding and be rewarded with spectacular snow
and sensational views. If you’re lucky, you might even have
the bowl all to yourself!
Snow camping
Snow camping offers adventure seekers the chance to
spend the night in a tent under a blanket of stars or in
one of Mt Stirling’s cosy huts, complete with warming
fireplaces. For the ultimate in Insta-worthy camping,
check out the Alpine Camp operated by Stirling Experience
- seven accommodation tents on raised platforms surround
a cosy teepee warmed by a pot-belly stove. Winter bliss!
Cross-country skiing
Mt Stirling’s network of 68km of cross-country ski trails is
groomed regularly for those eager to explore the resort on
skis. Beginners can start on the Practice Slope and
into more advanced trails. Lessons are available at the
Mt Stirling Ski School.

Snowshoeing
Explorers on snowshoes can discover the beauty of the
mountain on foot, traversing snowy tracks through soaring
mountain forests and evergreen ferny glades. Follow
Mt Stirling’s two interpretive loops for a fascinating and
beautiful alpine adventure.
Mt Stirling Ski School
Stirling Experience runs the Mt Stirling Ski School,
offering lessons in all disciplines for all levels, as well as
equipment hire - grab your skis, toboggans, snowshoes
and more in the one spot.
Fat bikes
In September, keen riders can BYO ‘fat bike’ (as the name
suggests, a mountain bike with fat wheels for riding on
snow) and take to selected trails on Mt Stirling. Check with
Ski Patrol on the permitted trails and enjoy a new way to
see the mountain.
Snowplay
If you prefer your snow visit with less adrenalin, Mt
Stirling’s snowplay and toboggan park is ideal for a
family outing (snow conditions permitting - in low snow
conditions Mt Buller is a better option).
Mt Stirling Café
Located at Telephone Box Junction, nearby the snowplay
park, the Mt Stirling Cafe is a welcoming retreat for
adventures and families alike, offering great coffee and a
range of hearty meals - perfect after a big day on the snow.
