We are so pleased
to bring you our
first issue of the
monthly MSVCC
Academy
newsletter,
Academy Now!
There are many
things happening in
the eLearning
Office of the MCCB, and we are excited to be
part of the great tradition of the MSVCCC. It
is our goal to support the students, staff and
administration of the community colleges in
the most efficient and effective manner
possible. In order to do that we recently
implemented some exciting new tools – the
MSVCC Support Center and AspirEDU’s
Dropout Detective. Keep reading…you’ll find
out more about these later on in the
newsletter.
Several of us recently attended the fourth
annual InstructureCon held in Park City, Utah.
It was packed with enough fun and
information for a super hero. So much so that
the theme of this year’s Canvas conference
was “Calling All Heroes”. Those of us who
attended were able to pack our Ed Tech
utility belts with great Canvas tips, tricks and
partnership ideas.
AspirEDU’s Dropout Detective…
Currently, most colleges are managing
online retention by reacting to students’
behavior by looking at what has already
happened and usually in a time that is
much too late to step in to assist. Also, it is
very time consuming to extract
information from each course that a
student is taking to determine if they are
at risk of failing or dropping a course(s).
Therefore, the time you identify a serious
problem, it can be too late to keep that
student in class.
College Spotlight
Elearning at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is
doing great things. Learn about the college’s recent
successes in training users and their upcoming training
projects.

Dropout Detective is a
software solution that fully integrates with
Canvas that identifies students who are
most at risk of dropping out of or failing a
course allowing instructors and
administrators to devote immediate
resources to those students
MSVCC Support Center…
The MCCB recently implemented Zendesk,
which is a cloud-based system for dealing
with inbound ticket requests. It enables us
to better track support issues and provide
a more timely response to those issues.
The MSVCC Support
Center serves as a
central location for
critical information that
provides the MCCB staff with
comprehensive access to trending issues
within the consortium. We are in the
process of building out a knowledge base
that will provide you with helpful
information in solving issues that you
might face within the MSVCC.
Canvas Corner
We’ve combed through all of the Canvas Release notes
to bring you the latest on what’s coming from Canvas.
