“ It ’ s not what you acquire , it ’ s who you become .”
Mylett believes everyone is meant to do something great , but people often lose their hunger as they become more successful . He encourages regular self-evaluation and getting “ addicted to the expansion of your being .” Admitting he was almost happier when building his business than when he had achieved success , he emphasized the importance of challenging yourself and discovering your true potential . “ Make a decision to go to the next level ,” he says . “ It ’ s awesome what you ’ ve done so far , but not compared to who you ’ re capable of becoming . I ’ m fascinated to find out who I can become , not what I can acquire .”
“ Live in anticipation of what ‘ one more ’ can do .”
“ You ’ re one decision , one client , one idea away from changing your life ,” Mylett stresses , urging people to live in anticipation of what “ one more ” can do . This mindset activates the brain to seek out opportunities for growth . “ If you live your life in anticipation , your brain begins to find the people , places , and things that will deliver the ‘ one more ’ to you ,” he explains .
Mylett ’ s father , who struggled with alcoholism , exemplified “ the power of one more ” when he decided to get sober for his family . “ When he came home from rehab , I asked him , ‘ Daddy , are you ever going to drink again ?’ My dad said , ‘ I can ’ t promise you that , Eddie , but I can tell you this . I won ’ t drink for one more day .’ That lasted the rest of his life , and my dad ended up helping thousands of people get sober . I believe in the power of one decision .”
“ This is no longer about you . This is about the difference you can make for other people .”
Before he entered rehab , while contemplating sobriety , Mylett ’ s father decided to commit suicide . But one person rose up to help him . This experience taught Mylett the impact one person can have .
“ In the act of helping one human being , he changed my entire family forever ,” Mylett says . “ That person didn ’ t know they ’ d change my life or that I ’ d reach millions of people . It ’ s miraculous what one person can do . What qualified this person to help my dad ? He was an addict at one time . He lived in the shadows and was a liar at one time . You are most qualified to help the person you used to be .”
“ You have an obligation to be the best person you ’ re capable of being .”
Mylett challenges people to fall back in love with their purpose and the difference they can make in others ’ lives , regardless of past failures . “ Small thinking , not mistakes or setbacks , is what truly disqualifies people from making a difference ,” he says .
Continuously replacing and remaking yourself , much like when you were a child , is crucial to happiness . “ I don ’ t want to be the same man at 54 that I was at 53 ,” he explains . “ I want to get better every single year . I believe you were born to do something great with your life , and I don ’ t believe that was just in the past . I believe that ’ s going forward , but it requires difficult decisions .” Mylett continually challenges people to evaluate their mindset and what needs to be sharpened , removed , or added to their lives annually .
“ You ’ ll be the happiest you ’ ve ever been in your life when you continue to remake yourself .”
Mylett ’ s success has allowed him to make other people ’ s dreams come true , such as providing healing retreats for war veterans with PTSD . “ None of that happens in my life or in their lives if I don ’ t keep going to the next level ,” he notes . “ There ’ s a secret that comes when you make your big dreams come true : You will make dreams come true for the people that you love . Dreams they don ’ t even know they have yet . All because you become successful . And that ’ s a million times better .”
You ’ re one decision away from improving your life . The question is , what ’ s that one decision ? And who do you want to become ?
“ There ’ s a part of you that knows you were born to do something great with your life and that it ’ s not completely fulfilled yet ,” Mylett concludes . “ At some point , you ’ ve got to put your heart back on the line and say , ‘ This is where I ’ m going to do it or not do it . I ’ m going to do something great with my life . I was born to do something awesome , and I ’ m not done yet .’”
