RISKING “ IT ” ALL
Several years later , Russell identified that the company ’ s information technology ( IT ) infrastructure was entirely decentralized . Consequently , he recommended to management that they create a centralized network , consolidate IT resources , and implement a ticketing system . Although management approved the proposal , the CEO informed Russell that his employment was at risk if he failed to execute it successfully . Nevertheless , Russell and his colleagues were determined to execute the plan , and they successfully eliminated several servers , consolidated the network and implemented a companywide email system , something that seems commonplace today .
Russell ’ s work history is characterized by several impressive career stops , including a tenure at Pfizer . But in his final position as a manager in an IT consulting company , Russell encountered significant conflict with upper management due to the company ’ s emphasis on prioritizing its own interests over those of its clients . Russell ’ s disagreements with management were primarily related to his opinion that the company had a tendency to focus on making money instead of ensuring that the client got the solution that was the best fit for them .
In response to this unsatisfactory situation , Russell decided to take a considerable risk , saving the funds necessary to establish his own company . This endeavor required not only financial resources but also a willingness to depart from the security and stability of traditional employment in favor of a more entrepreneurial approach .
When Russell first established Quinn Technology Solutions , an IT and cybersecurity firm , he had scant resources and no clients . Encouraged by his then-girlfriend , who is now his wife , he embarked on the venture to create the company . Although they encountered many setbacks and trials , they persisted , and today , almost eleven years later , the company has grown to encompass twelve employees supporting around 2,000 computer systems .

Russell ’ s current endeavor is adding more regulatory compliance help to his client base . There are many governmental compliance requirements such as CMMC , HIPAA , DFARS , FINRA , PCI , NIST , and GDPR , but there are also industry compliance standards such as SOC and COVIT . However , even if a company does not require any of these compliance standards , if they have cybersecurity insurance , they still need to follow a basic set of cybersecurity standards . So Russell and his team want to be able to help them keep up to date with the current requirements and ensure that their environments are safe .
Russell Quinn ’ s journey in the field of information technology is a remarkable one .
