MSP Success Magazine recently polled more than 400 MSPs to find out what marketing activities brought in the greatest number of new clients last year . While it ’ s not surprising to see things such as referrals and crossselling at the top of the list , we were interested to see what sat at the bottom of the list .

According to our survey , the top 3 sources of new business last year were Referrals / Word Of Mouth , Upselling / Cross- Selling Current Customers , and Inbound Calls / Website Form Fills . Close behind that were Drip Marketing , Outbound Calling , and Direct Mail . Surprisingly , trade shows and webinars hang out at the bottom . Is it because MSPs are attending the wrong trade shows with the wrong attendees ? Do MSPs struggle with a good marketing plan to capture opportunities at trade shows and on webinars ? Events , including trade shows and webinars , are more complex marketing activities than referrals , but done right , they should generate a solid ROI .
