We all have those friends and acquaintances that seem to know everyone. Ask for an introduction to someone who could potentially change your life and/or increase your earning potential.
Volunteer.
Talk to your boss, is there a project that needs to be completed, or organized? Step up to the task and prepare to prove yourself. Put yourself out there to showcase your knowledge, skills, and abilities in a new light. Make sure, whatever the task is, that it is something you can do and do better than just well.
Find Support.
Involving friends and family in your plan not only opens you up to constructive feedback, but allows you a place to find help, guidance, and even a place to vent as needed. Maybe there is a coworker at your office or an acquaintance who does what you would LOVE to do, ask them out for coffee and pick their brain or, even better, ask them to help mentor you and keep you on task.
Remember, while you are working on your future self not to let your present self get lost. You are trying to enhance who you are in the workplace, not replace who you are. Now that you have your plan fully created you're ready to take that first step, so what are you waiting for? Get your career in gear and go go go!
