Tim and Jim aren’t the only military affiliates employed by American Airlines. Of the approximate 110,000 at American, many are Veterans, and many continue to serve in the Guard and Reserves. American Airlines prioritizes its commitment to Guard and Reserve employees.
Additionally, American Airlines Human Resources actively and aggressively seeks and hires military-affiliates, and the Career Expo during SkyBall provides the opportunity for interested military members, Veterans, and spouses to learn about opportunities with American Airlines.
American Airlines’ commitment to Veterans and the military focuses on supporting EACH member of the military community and includes initiatives that provide employment opportunities and improve quality of life.

Any time I meet a successful military affiliate working in the civilian world, I have, without fail, one question for them: “What advice do you have for others making the move to civilian employment?” So, when I had the opportunity to talk to Jim and Tim, I, of course, asked for their input.
Advice from Jim:
Did you know that only 28% of the population can meet the qualifications of the military? You are part of an elite group with superior training that companies recognize. You performed these duties in the most challenging situations; now as you transition, adapt and use it to your advantage.
Market Yourself. Take the time to learn the value of your military experience and know how to translate it and communicate it to a civilian.
Be Ready To Impress. Have appropriate interview attire and interview materials handy. Practice interview questions (mock interviews), and evaluate your performance after the interview.
Improve Your Marksmanship. To achieve success you have to understand what it is like to fail. Just like in the military, you have to learn to adjust aim and keep firing.
