VETERAN SUCCESS STORY

Did you know CASY was named best in class by the Call of Duty Endowment?

Congratulation, Altaf “Al” B.!

After working with CASY Employment Specialist, Andrea Hay, for six months, Al was hired by Redpoint Resolutions LLC!

Hiring Challenge: I couldn’t get anyone to call me back after they reviewed my resume or offer me a position after interviewing me. I just couldn’t make the connection with the employers. I knew my resume needed work, and I needed to drop a lot of the military lingo that was programmed into me. I had no idea where to start with my resume since most of my life I had been doing military jobs. I knew I needed a lot of help, but didn’t know where to find it.

Assistance Received: Andrea was great; she sent me literature on how to tighten up my resume. After a few re-writes and a lot of tips on how to tailor my resume for positions, I received significantly more call-backs and was able to effectively explain myself in “civilian speak.” I also didn’t know all the opportunities that were available to me: work from home, telecommuting, and working off hours were foreign concepts to me. Andrea introduced me to these opportunities.

Result of Assistance: In early April, I was interviewed by a small company that received my resume. I did a few interviews with them, and they brought me on as an operations manager. My new resume definitely helped me get through the door, and the interview was easy once I was able to articulate what I had done in the military.

Value of Experience: I think a lot of vets coming into the job force think they can do it without any help. That’s how I thought. It’s in our nature to be independent and “figure things out.” I would say after 12 months of unemployment, trying to navigate these waters alone is the wrong answer. My one regret is not having asked for help sooner. The resume reviews, the interview assistance, the job contacts, and the networks are all very helpful. I know my current job was a result of the help I received.
