The volunteer office will also help you keep track of your volunteer hours, and the skills you learn while volunteering can be used on your resume if you decide to seek employment outside the home. You would be surprised at the skills you learn while volunteering.
As soon as we arrive to a new assignment, I have always enjoyed getting immediately involved in my husband's unit and the Family Readiness Groups and making lasting friendships with the Spouses within the unit. When the unit goes through training or deployment, you are connected to a group of Spouses that are going through the same journey you are going through and they become a great support system for each other. That is what makes being part of the Military so special.
3.How have you successfully balanced your commitment to volunteerism and your Family?
I try to be involved the best I can wherever we are assigned, but also make sure my Family is cared for and feel that they are important, too. I think it is important to be up-front with the Spouses in your unit as to when it is a busy time with your family, such as homework time or getting children to their activities, etc. They will understand.

2. What inspires you to do the volunteer work you do, and what advice do you have for military spouses who want to volunteer?

I think one of the most rewarding things about being a military spouse is the opportunity to volunteer within your military community and your Spouse's unit. You have the honor of becoming part of something greater than yourself, and it is very rewarding to help others and make a difference in their lives.
You meet so many wonderful people through volunteering and you learn so much about yourself and others. I feel like I have become a better person through volunteering. I think volunteering brings great joy and fulfillment.
Each installation has a Volunteer Coordinator. They have a list of opportunities to volunteer within your military community. Find something you have an interest or passion for.
