The Soldier for Life Program

The U.S. Army established Soldier for Life (SFL) in July 2012 to maintain trust with our Army Family during and after service. This initiative is designed to enable Soldiers, Veterans and Families to leave military service "career ready", and connect to an established network to find employment, education and health resources. Veterans bring value to employers, schools, and communities, and we strengthen the current Army and the Nation by encouraging positive transitions and ultimately preserving the “premier all-volunteer Army.”

SFL is the US Army’s connection arm with the Army network, communities, VSO/MSOs, and industry. It also focuses on the currently serving Soldier population to instill the Soldier for Life mindset of service. Through training and engagement, Soldiers are prepared for post-transition life by developing the ideal that they and their loved ones are part of an Army family for life from the very moment they enter the Army.

The Soldier for Life mission is to connect Army, governmental, and community efforts to build relationships that facilitate successful reintegration of our Soldiers, Retired Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families in order to keep them Army Strong and instill their values, ethos, and leadership within communities.

There are four lines of operation within the SFL Campaign framework: Army, Government, Community (Center of Gravity), Information.

The three pillars of SFL are employment, education, and health. Most resources provided to Veterans fall within one of these three categories.
