A Vital Piece of the Transition Team for Military Members and Veterans

Being back and having worn the uniform for so long can make us feel different in regards to getting help, but that’s why there are so many programs out there for us. Find it in you to build a relationship with someone who is willing to assist you. Value and appreciate them as they are just as important as your active duty mentors. Remember to network and save everyone’s information as you actively engage in your transition.

People often say, “It is not about what you know, but who you know.” With this quote in mind, a mentor can help you achieve your goals. The difficulty of the transition process varies depending on the time spent preparing and networking; it often requires a little bit of luck too. Treat your transition into civilian life with the utmost importance; preparing, researching, and readiness are a must because “if you stay ready, you won’t have to get ready.” And a mentor can help.

About Esteban: Esteban was born in Medellin, Colombia but moved to South Florida as a teenager. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Marines, looking to set an example for his little brother and to give back to the country for all that the US offers families like his. Upon returning to the Civilian Division of South Florida, Esteban sought to become a banker by profession and has been very successful in his pursuit. He speaks Portuguese, Spanish, and English, has attended Chaminad University, Broward College, and is currently enrolled in Phoenix University. He is a volunteer at heart who constantly

volunteers his time to help people, especially military families and veterans.

Esteban on the Writers Guild: "The program was outstanding. I had a great experience learning and adjusting to requirements. I love what the journal stands for; working with the team was even better than what I expected. I learned that tailoring your writing is a must in order to effectively reach targeted audiences."
