How do you define success? Please tell us about one success of which you are particularly proud.
For me, success is less about numbers and more about working my hardest, doing the best possible job I could do, and making sure that I put the mission first. A huge success was working with Hiring Our Heroes to host career fairs on military installations. A lot of times transitioning Soldiers who are still in uniform cannot leave to attend this type of event. As a result of this team effort, Transition Seminars have been hosted across the country, and in Hawaii, Europe and Asia. Employed Veterans are more likely to take advantage of health and education resources and opportunities, so these Transition Seminars are hugely important.
How do you push through hard times and challenges?
Everyone faces adversity in some capacity. Sometimes the best way to push through is to take a deep breath, reach out to your battle buddies, and ask for help. All service members know that being in uniform means being a member of a team. Your battle buddies, your teammates, are there to help you and support you in the face of adversity.
What do you hope to accomplish in 2015 and beyond?
I would like to see Soldiers, Veterans and Families embrace the Soldier for Life mindset: that the power of service is invaluable, and that our men and women in uniform should take the invaluable skills the military teaches and continue to apply them as civilians.
