VETERAN SUCCESS STORY

Did you know CASY was named best in class by the Call of Duty Endowment?

Congratulations, Ed!

After four months of working with CASY, Ed was hired to a GS-15 position by the

Office of the Secretary of Defense!

Hiring Challenge: Although I had the leadership skills needed to move any company or organization forward, the market is saturated. Since my background is general, it was difficult to find the position that fit my skills sets. Also, it can get overwhelming with all the job boards out there, along with veteran employment services who claim their mouse trap is better than the others. There are too many job boards out there that don’t talk to one another. All require personal information and so you find yourself updating the same information for all. It is redundant and yields the same results; NOTHING. CASY provides direct, one-on-one assistance to combat the overwhelming nature of the process.

Assistance Received: My resume was three years old and needed to be updated with the jobs I had since retirement. It was also too long and only needed to highlight my accomplishments, not my responsibilities. CASY was very involved in ensuring my information was exact, concise, and error-free. They also provided me with leads that fit my skill sets and interests, and didn’t load me down with jobs that I just wasn’t interested in. They were kind, patient, and professional.

Result of Assistance: I applied for a job in OSD that I was very interested in. The whole process took approximately 3 months. I was offered the GS15 position in early May, and I started on June 15th.

Value of Experience: The value of just knowing who you can turn to and trust is reward alone. CASY didn’t give me any flowery compliments by stating “oh, your background is outstanding and you should have a job real soon.” They provided straight talk and told me what I needed to do and provided me a time line. There were no promises made, just hard work and rolling up the sleeves to do what they asked. I know I am just one of many veterans who needed assistance.

However, I felt like I was their only unemployed veteran.
