In 2012, we started hosting Employer Advisory Council meetings to share military employee recruiting and retention best practices. This unique and highly effective forum provides employers the chance to invite business colleagues to their company, showcase their support of military employees and network about innovative approaches. We also distribute educational literature from various sources to enrich their knowledge base.
We recently hosted a meetup with GE Aviation where Kroger and the Cincinnati Police Department spoke on their military friendly programs, PNC Bank about the path to becoming an Employer Support of Guard and Reserve Freedom Award Winner, and how small to medium sized businesses can jump start their military employee recruitment and retention practices at which CASY & MSCCN’s Sr. Executive VP Stacy Bayton presented. We have anywhere from 50 -110 employers attend each meeting.
As a result of this outreach, employers are hosting military-specific job fairs, special hiring events, interview and resume workshops and establishing new military resource groups. In addition, employers send our office an average of 30 job vacancy announcements and make at least six phone inquiries per month asking how to get involved in the program. Congressional staffers are also learning about our work and making inquiries.
Aerospace Professional Development Center and Wright State University Student Veteran and Military Center will
host our next Employer Advisory Council Meeting on March 15, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A concurrent job fair will run from 10:30 to 12:00 p.m.
Over the years, we have also provided One-Stop support to employers to answer questions about military service, presented certificates of appreciation signed by the Adjutant General, and invited employers to Ohio Army National Guard welcome home and call to duty ceremonies. We have shared information with troops about how to communicate with their employers so they fully understand they are a valued part of the national security team.
