What Motivates You?
Identifying What You are Looking for in Your Next Career
By Erin Voirol, COO CASY & MSCCN
What motivates you?
It’s a seemingly simple enough question, but also one complex enough to deserve its own catalogue of books, journal articles, and research studies.
It also may be one of the questions that you can help you to identify your next career move--whether you are a PCSing spouse or a transitioning service member.
What Understanding Your Motivation Allows
Any job is made of its many parts, and each aspect of a job contributes to feelings and values associated with it. But we don’t value each part equally; depending on our tastes, preferences, and priorities, we can order from most to least the parts of a job we find enjoyable, meaningful, or important. Most likely, the areas we rate on the
“most” end of the spectrum are what motivate us to do the work we do.
Identifying the various traits of your current job and considering the value you place on each of them can help you to identify what you need or want in a future position.
