I held this position for three years before my husband accepted a job in Ohio.
It was difficult to leave such a perfect job behind. As I started looking into "work at home" jobs in the nursing field, I found many postings and assumed that I would be an ideal candidate for any one of them. After applying for at least three positions a day for six months, I became very frustrated, but continued to apply. I reached out to one of the major companies that I was interested in and was told that for each job requisition they received over 1,000 applicants, which made me realize that I needed to make myself stand out.
I then consulted a friend of mine from MSCCN who gave me multiple tips on revamping my resume and referred me to Employment Specialist Manager, Micki Auten. We discussed what type of job I was searching for, and she made some suggestions for different companies for me to look into while she also performingjob search.
Three months later, I received a phone call to set up a phone interview with American Health Holdings/Aetna for a telecommute utilization management nurse position. I had my first phone interview the next day, followed by a second interview within the same week. Two days after my second, interview, I was offered a full time work at home position which I began in January.
I appreciate people who acknowledge the challenges of military families. I have never served in the military myself, but as a family, we support decisions that will benefit us as a whole, which often times involves relocating. I am thankful to know that MSCCN is available to help so many military families with employment as they begin their new journey.

My husband, joined the U.S. Air Force in August of 1999, three months before we got married. We later moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, where he joined the National Guard, and we both returned to college. I received my associates degree in Nursing. He then attended Officer's Training School, which led us to Pinehurst, NC for his position as a reservist C-130 pilot.
While living in NC, I accepted a weekend position at a local hospital reviewing charts. As my husband began to travel more frequently, it became very difficult to find childcare on the weekends. I arranged a meeting with my manager thinking I would need to leave my job. She offered me the chance to be the first RN to have this position and work remotely from home. This was an amazing opportunity that allowed me to be at home with my five children and still earn money.
