30 Minutes to Your Best Year Yet!

By Amy Rossi

Then, building on them, visualize where you want to be a year from now, which can help you focus on where you are and how to position yourself to reach new goals next year!

Step 1: ReflectStep

Step 1:Reflect Set a timer for 5 minutes, close your eyes, and picture and feel your accomplishments. Really focus on all of the good things that happened. If you find yourself thinking about a negative situation, try to focus on something you learned from the negative experience or something good that it gave you.

Step 2: Remember

Divide a sheet of paper into 2 columns, Personal and Professional, and set a timer for 10 minutes. Write down your various personal and professional accomplishments, trying to list one professional accomplishment then one personal accomplishment so that you are balancing your focus.

If you are currently working, you'll need them for any self-assessments or to discuss performance reviews. If you are looking for work, they are an important part of what brought you here and what you can do to secure your next job. Either way, add your professional accomplishments to your master resume. Pick a picture representing a personal accomplishment to frame and hang to remember what you can accomplish.

Step 3: Reposition

Set a timer for 15 minutes; draw a line under your accomplishments. Then, write down one professional goal and one personal goal and the steps you need to take to achieve that goal next year. Put it on a post it

note, and put that note on the framed accomplishment to remind yourself that anything you make an effort to achieve will come true. Make sure it is somewhere you can see it often!

Next year is a new chapter in your life; how will you spend it? Will you get a new job? Run a marathon? Get a new degree? Retire from the military? Learn to fly a plane? The choice is yours. Either way, make 2016 the best year yet!
