Mary! Don't You Weep!

As I listened to the song, “Mary, Don’t You Weep!”, I envisioned Mary at the cross weeping. For many years, I always thought Mary was at the CROSS. Come to find out, there were quite a few "Marys" at the cross but it wasn't the “Mary of Bethany”. And it wasn't Lazarus and Martha’s sister, Mary. I was so far from the truth in my belief of so many years and practically all of my life, I have been believing Mary was weeping at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. “But God”, as my favorite pastor would say. I must pray,

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things

I cannot change,

The courage to change the things I can,

And wisdom to know the difference.”

-The Serenity Prayer.

Another truth that I’ve learned while on my journey of “Mary”, not only did Mary weep but Jesus wept too! “When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and was troubled, and said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.” (John 11:33–36) Jesus assures her that her brother will rise again. "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" Martha confesses, "Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world" (John 11:27).
