We are all\r\n\r\nhere for the screening of Cereal\r\nKillers, an hour long documentary\r\ndirected by Yolanda Barker\r\nchronicling the twenty-eight day\r\njourney of Irish (ex) international\r\nhigh jumper Donal O’Neill through\r\nthe maze that is health, nutrition\r\nand the multi-national monopoly\r\nof foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals.\r\nO’Neill wrote and produced the\r\nfilm. Everyone is excited.\r\nEveryone is talking transformation.\r\nEveryone is keen to see how a\r\ndiet consisting of 70% fat and no\r\nsugar or grains can result in perfect\r\ncholesterol readings, weight loss\r\nand feeling as Donal puts it ‘like\r\na spring lamb’ on a four thousand\r\ncalorie a day regime.\r\nYes you heard right, four thousand\r\ncalories (and up to five thousand for\r\nsome) A DAY!!!!!\r\nWe talk a lot about food these days.\r\nIt’s on our minds, in our living rooms,\r\nmoving around us on billboards and\r\nseeping into our psyches. Don’t eat\r\nfats! Do eat that! Perhaps the more\r\nfrightened we are the less informed\r\nchoices we will make?\r\nDonal O’Neill reveals this to be true in\r\nCereal Killers – at least for himself and\r\nhis circle of supporters. Meticulously\r\nmonitored by health professionals\r\nthroughout the documentary, he\r\nembarks on a quest to find out why his\r\nfit ex professional football player father\r\nhad a heart attack and his healthy uncle\r\ncontracted type two diabetes and what\r\n\r\nFor: Mornington Life Magazine, Village Mt Eliza Magazine & Sorrento Village Life Magazine\r\n\r\nthis means for him. The results are\r\nsurprising. The familiar food pyramid is\r\nthrown out the window and eggs, meat\r\nand full fat become the heroes.\r\nShot mostly in Cape Town South Africa,\r\nthe documentary debunks many dietary\r\nand exercise theorems through a series\r\nof interviews with leading sports scientist\r\nProfessor Tim Noakes at the University\r\nof Cape Town, English author of ‘How\r\nto Escape the Diet Trap’ and ‘Waist\r\nDisposal’ Dr John Briffa, and Australian\r\nNational Cricket Team physician Dr\r\nPeter Brukner, (all of whom support\r\nthe Paleo real food lifestyle which\r\naligns us with our primitive forefathers)\r\nand Donal’s amazing results. The\r\ndocumentary also discusses how the\r\nmedical world treats illness rather than\r\nprevents it and reveals how political,\r\ncommercial and monetary agendas\r\ndictate our dietary guidelines and are\r\nkeeping us ill.\r\nMany of the audience members tonight\r\nhave already begun their Paleo (low\r\ncarb, high fat) journey. They are hungry\r\n\r\nfor taking charge of their own health\r\nrather than waiting for others to do it\r\nfor them. Mornington locals Mark and\r\nPrue Griffith are part of the real food\r\nrevolution. ‘My energy levels went up just\r\nfive days after I started’, says Mark. ‘And I\r\nbegan to think more clearly’. Two women\r\nup the back describe how they’ve lost\r\nkilos without feeling hungry. Melbourne\r\ngeneral practitioner Zeeshan Arain talks\r\nabout how the diet has transformed his\r\nand his patients’ lives.\r\nYou can make up your own mind\r\nby viewing Cereal Killers at www.\r\ncerealkillersmovie.com\r\nReal food for thought.\r\nNote: Shae Wheeler from You Are\r\nWhat You Eat Eats (see March edition\r\nof Mornington Peninsula Magazine)\r\norganised this event.
