Getting a Foothold On Life Alright people, bear with me because this is just an open thought on a realization I had just moments ago. I had just gone to relieve some stress with a good friend after my last exam for the semester in university. We went rock climbing and I just came home and I noticed how much rock climbing is like most important challenges in life. By BG No Swag 21 | Movin’ On Up | www.noswagent.com | When rock climbing you first pick your path and you begin your journey “movin’ on up” (see what I did there?). It takes strength and commitment and it is far from easy. There are many challenges on the way up which can be addressed in various ways. To overcome these challenges you have to make minor adjustments to your approach by learning and adjusting your technique, adjusting your points of contact, counterbalancing, and much more that I have yet to learn. On your first attempt you are likely to fall and that is normal so you do not get discouraged. Sometimes things out of your prediction get in the way (sweat from your hands or chalk residue on a stone) but you keep trying harder after every time you fall. The first time did not work out so you try it in a new way and you keep changing, growing, and becoming stronger until you succeed. That success is addicting so you keep trying new and more challenging walls and setting new goals for yourself which inevitably leads to more personal growth. That process is identical for most aspects of life. In business for example, you try something, and if it doesn’t work you try a different approach. If you try a business plan and something beyond your control knocks your ass down you get back up and try again, and again, and again, and eventually you succeed. With relationships we start building together with our life partners some things can go wrong no matter how careful we are and how slow we move up. We make the necessary adjustments to keep the balance we need and we keep moving. We always set new goals and move towards them until we get that satisfaction we crave from succeeding… and then we repeat the process. Rock climbing to some is a hobby, to others it is a sport, but to me I think we can all learn from rock climbing that it is a beautiful way of life that can lead to success in anything we commit to. www.noswagent.com | Movin’ On Up | 22
