Soft Shell Positioned between fleece and waterproof layers is the soft shell, which is more breathable than a waterproof, hard shell layer, yet offers comfort and respectable weather resistance in a variety of conditions. Soft shell layers are made from synthetic, stretch-woven material, and will differ in warmth and amount of windproofness. They range from very lightweight, highly stretchy fabrics that will not be very warm (but are perfect for aerobic activities), up to windproof, insulated options that are best for cold conditions where you may be stopping frequently throughout the day. The decision on what kind of soft shell is best will depend upon your intended activity and what other pieces you have in your layering system. \r\nSizing Tips Insulation layers are often worn as a system. A light or medium insulation piece should fit over a baselayer or even a light fleece. A parka is meant to fit over all of your layers. When sizing your layers, be sure to try them all on together, but they should also work independently. You will mix and match layers according to conditions. If you\'re a size Large upper body, it\'s likely all of your layers will be size Large.
