He said for the past five years, he’ s worked with Easter Seals of Florida. He said Coach has always been gracious about donating handbags and shoes that he customizes for the non-profit’ s“ Pair to Remember” annual charity event. The event was sold-out every year and was a blockbuster event, he said.
“ My last pair of Coach customized shoes were live auctioned during the event and raised over $ 5,000 for Easter Seals,” he said.“ The money funds the Easter Seals adult daycare center located here in Winter Park. It’ s a fabulous center that supports people with disabilities and their caregivers.”
LEFT: One of the things to do, each time, is to have your photo taken on the“ red carpet.” Every one of Greg’ s shows has a red carpet, which is another fun way to connect with him and other guests.
LEFT BELOW: In the past couple of years, Greg has devoted some time to a new figure in his artwork that has gained some popularity-“ Cryin’ Girl.” Here are a few that he’ s done, so far. He said he does them on commission.
In the past couple of years, Greg has devoted some time to a new figure in his artwork that has gained some popularity:“ Cryin’ Girl.”
“ Two years ago I was playing around with a big canvas and the‘ Cryin’ Girl’ just happened,” he told me when I asked him about it.“ You know one of those things,‘ a happy accident,’ as Bob Ross might say.”
He told me that he was showing some new“ Cheeky” works to a collector on his phone and he just happened to see a photo of the“ Cryin’ Girl.’ Then, he insisted on seeing it in person and, when he did, he bought the painting on the spot.
“ I posted it on social media and it sure shook things up,” Greg said.“ The‘ Cryin’ Girl’ just kind of took off.”
He did tell me, however, that he wasn’ t really working on a series of the new pieces but would do them on commission. He said there were 12 of them, so far.
“ Cheeky put me on the map and she’ s the star and she’ s worldwide. I still paint Cheeky daily and I have a book of ideas,” he said.
Greg said beyond the art itself, he looked forward to more opportunities to connect with new collectors.
“ It’ s a gift when someone sees my work for the first time and pauses for a moment in this fast world to ask questions and be curious, because I am too,” he said.
