Byrd gets‘ cheeky’ Moultrie native finds national art success by Adelia Ladson
Greg Byrd is a hometown boy who has achieved what few people achieve. He has successfully made a living as an artist, painting exactly what he wants to paint. To me, that is any artist’ s dream come true.
“ I love painting and feel so fortunate to have all the wonderful support that I have, especially, from all my collectors at home in Moultrie and South Georgia. I’ m always excited to get the next commission and create something new,” he said.
Not only have his paintings, nicknamed“ Cheekies,” found homes in Central Florida, where he lives, and Colquitt County but across the United States and in other countries, now, including the Philippines.
“ The last“ Cheeky’ I shipped went to a high rise in Manilla. She’ s in places I’ ve never been!” he said.
When I had sat down with Greg for the very first time, years ago, the first thing that I wanted to know was the story of how“ Cheeky” came to be. He told me, back then, it was when he started playing around with the idea of creating his own pieces of art. He and his wife, Cindy, were looking to buy some artwork for their home.
Artist Greg Byrd, works on a painting in his studio, at home, in Winter Park, Fla. He uses a variety of media to create his signature paintings. He starts with his simple, signature woman’ s silhouette and then builds on it to portray the personality of his subject, using a variety of methods including stenciling.
