The Southern Arts Invitational is just one of the Center’ s many offerings, but it crystalizes the mission at the art of it all: to nurture creativity, to connect artists and audiences, and to affirm that art is not a luxury, but a necessity.
Arts Center of Moultrie Curator Amber Moore talks with patrons during the Southern Arts Invitational opening. This show is one of many shows the arts center hosts throughout the year under the supervision of Moore.

Moultrie is not Atlanta. It’ s not Savannah or New Orleans or Nashville. It does not spring to mind when thinking about creative hubs like San Francisco or New York. It’ s a small Southern community, surrounded by farmland and defined by a pace of life that moves slower than the highways up north. And yet, here in“ little

‘ ole Moultrie,” sits an Arts Center with a permanent collection that rivals those of cities many times its size. Here is a space where children take their first art class, where families wander exhibitions and artworks that would otherwise never make it to this corner of the map, and where the creative voices of the South are given a stage.

What makes the Arts Center of Moultrie remarkable isn’ t just its exhibitions or its educational programs – though both are robust. It’ s the audacity of its vision. It’ s the belief that Moultrie deserves a place where beauty and imagination can take root and be nurtured, where children growing up in South Georgia can learn that their creative voices matter, and where a permanent collection can be stewarded for generations.
The permanent collection is, in many ways, the heart of the Arts Center’ s story.
Currently boasting more than 200 works, it is an achievement that far outpaces what most would expect to find in a small town like Moultrie. In the Contemporary Gallery, you’ ll find Andy Warhol’ s“ Mrs. Lillian,” an exceptionally rare silkscreen print depicting President
