When I was in high school , I was involved in ROTC for four years . There was a clash between these two areas of my life . I had to ask myself , am I going to go into the Marines or do I want to pursue art ? Much respect for the military , but I elected for art .
I toured a few schools before deciding to go to Georgia Southwestern in Americus . During the tour , as soon as we got in the department , I said to myself , this is where I ’ m gonna go . This feels right . This feels like home . Plus they had a glassblowing program , which was something I had never seen offered at another university in Georgia .
At Georgia Southwestern , I couldn ’ t decide what I wanted my specific major to be . It was like , oh man , do I want to be a glassblower ? Do I want to do ceramics ? I really like ceramics . But I also love painting . And printmaking ! It was so hard to decide . I ended up double majoring in ceramics and painting . I really couldn ’ t decide between the two .
To graduate from the art department at Georgia Southwestern , you have to present a solo senior show . This past November was my senior show , which is what most of my body of work is from . Most of my art for my show was about our journey as people , how we morph as we go through differ-
