“ I think that as much as I am a creator and a designer and a florist and a planner, I’ m also a story teller. It is my opportunity to create a space that reflects my client, where they come from, what they believe in, what’ s important to them.”
~ Corey Brice McCants for good old South Georgia people that worked hard. They valued, you know, where their money came from.”
So, when he could have gone anywhere to open his business, how did Corey get to Moultrie? As things often start, in the South, it was a friend of a friend that first made the introduction.
He said years ago, a friend called him because one of her friends’ daughters was getting married in just a few months. They were beginning to panic and needed a wedding planner.
“ And so I did that wedding and it ended up being very successful and that kind of opened the door for me to begin traveling to Moultrie, building a client base here. And it just kind of grew from there,” he added.
He said he started decorating homes in Moultrie for the holidays, doing more weddings and even the baby showers of the couples that he had previously done their weddings. He said he has been with some of them through both their happiest times and darkest of times because he’ s also done funerals for their parents or family members.
“ You know, that is the great thing about Moultrie people. They not only grow with you or grow on you, but they stick with you. They’ re very loyal,” he said.
He said, eventually, a friend of his in Moultrie told him that they had an old dry cleaners building just sitting vacant and asked him,“ What would happen? How would you feel about opening up a flower shop?”
He said, he thought about it for a moment, wondering if he really wanted to do it.
“ And, it was the right day and I was receptive and I said,‘ You know, let’ s do it.’ And so here we are,” he added.
Corey opened The Carriage House at 323, located at 323 First St. S. E., in October 2024, just in time for Christmas. Believe me, folks, the shop, during Christmas, was absolutely beautiful and spectacular, offering a ton of gift ideas and home decor for the holidays. And since its opening, Corey and his team keep it fresh and ever-evolving, especially, with the seasons.
He said he had always wanted to own his own shop but had given up on the idea, thinking that maybe it just wasn’ t in the cards that God had for him.
“ But all of the right doors opened and here we are,” he said.
Corey said the community has embraced him and the shop with open arms and he’ s never felt like an outsider in Moultrie. He said he enjoys meeting new people each and every day and he has an amazing team in place to help him.
