Every life has its own milestones , but two of the most common are weddings and high school graduations . This issue of Moultrie Scene celebrates both .
The magazine ’ s Bridal Section has become an annual feature , and this year should not disappoint prospective brides and grooms . Colquitt County has a number of wedding venues that are profiled in the advertorial section , and articles offer advice on venues , menus , the honeymoon and more .
The Around Town pages , which debuted in the May issue this year , provide a photographic view of a popular local event . This month , Around Town turns its attention to the Colquitt County High School graduation at Mack Tharpe Stadium . Our thanks to photographer Connie Southwell for covering the annual ceremony .
Also as part of our coverage of the high school ’ s graduation , Moultrie Scene has profiled the top two students : valedictorian Matthew Rakestraw and salutatorian Eric Garcia . Both are headed to Georgia Tech in the fall . Rakestraw plans to major in international affairs with a minor in political science . Garcia plans to major in business administration and minor in computer science .

Rounding out this issue , Moultrie Scene also presents the story of the Shaw Gladiators , a group of older adults who socialize weekly in Northwest Moultrie . The group gets its name from the A . F . Shaw Gymnasium , where they originally met under the guidance of Coach Sam Stewart . The focus of the group has changed since Stewart ’ s retirement , but the friendships have held strong for more than 20 years . Moultrie Scene magazine ( and its sister publication , The Moultrie Observer newspaper ) hope to be part of many milestones through the years .
