T : That happened out of necessity , but now that my back ’ s healed up , it seems there ’ s been a good response on the channel to Brooklyn and the kids being on there , more of a family presence . We ’ ll try to keep that up .
Opportunity out of chaos ! T : Yes . Just be careful with those inflatable water slides ! ( laughs )
Six varieties of okra grown by Lazy Dog Farm this past summer .
Making y ’ all ’ s videos and doing the outreach , the teaching through those materials , what is your aim ? Do y ’ all have a target audience or are y ’ all just doing it because you love it ? T : We can go into our You- Tube channel and look at the demographics of our videos , but we don ’ t have a specific audience in mind . It ’ s just whoever gravitates towards our videos . We have a lot of viewers who are somewhat older , folks who have been growing food their whole lives – maybe planted a few squash plants , a few rows of corn , a little okra here and there , and that was it . They like our videos because we show them new things they can grow that they ’ ve never even heard of . B : We also have some younger people – young is a relative term , but folks our age , millennials – that have got back into gardening . They have kids now , and they ’ re wanting to learn , or to relearn , how to grow their own food . T : I really like interacting with our viewers , I try to answer every comment or question . B : Travis is great about that . He does answer them all . It ’ s like a free advice line . He ’ s answering folks left and right . Some of our videos have upwards of 150 comments , and he replies to them all . And I think that sets us apart from some other YouTubers who make videos about gardening . That , and we both work full-time . You don ’ t see that often in this arena . We try to show that you can have this garden and work for a living too . Now , if we had animals , cows and hogs and so forth , then that would be different .
