technologies that will aid us in providing a better learning environment and increase our safety measures .
We are implementing a new classroom camera system called Kloud12 , a video platform that enhances learning . The teacher in each classroom will have control of the camera and can use recordings of lessons for many reasons . If a student is out on hospital homebound , they can connect to the live lesson each day from home , or the teacher could record the lesson and place it in their Google Classroom for the student to view later . It can be used when the subject matter may be a little hard and students need to review what they were taught after class , such as solving specific math problems assigned as homework . If one teacher is absent but another teacher is teaching the same content , students being monitored by a substitute can log in to the on-campus teacher ’ s lesson and not miss a day of learning . The cameras will be placed in all classrooms beginning with grades 6 through 12 .
The District will launch a mobile app and online reporting tool called Anonymous Alerts , where students , parents , and the community can anonymously report safety concerns . Each reported situation is routed to the appropriate department or staff person for follow-up . We hope this system will encourage students to feel safe in reporting concerns quickly , leading to a timely resolution if possible . Anonymous Alerts and the Kloud12 camera system will lead to a more positive learning climate in our schools .
As a District , we will be moving toward more technologically advanced ways of processing new hires and new enrollments . We currently use Frontline Education for our absence management process but will soon add the tools for hiring and personnel record management . Infinite Campus has been used for several years now for student records and the parent portal . We will begin using the tools for online enrollment , making enrolling in one of our District schools much simpler .
Colquitt County School Superintendent Ben Wiggins assisted the School Nutrition staff with serving lunch to students at Okapilco Elementary during National School Nutrition Week .
Most of these things are improvements we are making behind the scenes to how we operate . Other things we hope many of you have seen or heard about already , including the launch of Dolly Parton ’ s Imagination Library . The Department of Pre-K and Early Learning launched the program in October with the support of the United Way to provide a book a month to a registered child from birth to 5 years old free of charge . We encourage all families to register their children for this free program . We also hope that the community is aware that we currently have the third lowest millage rate in Georgia at 9.091 , resulting in no property tax increase from the Board of Education .
We have started the strategic planning process and seek feedback from the community on what the next 5 , 10 , 15 , 20 years will look like for Colquitt County Schools . We have held one Strength , Weakness , Opportunities , and Threats analysis with a group of parents , teachers , students , and community members . We will be launching a countywide survey that we hope many of you will complete . Your feedback will guide us as we plan for the future of our education system and our community ’ s workforce needs .
On a personal note , I want to thank this community for the support my wife and I have received as the new superintendent . It has been an honor to come back to the District that gave me my beginning . I am excited about the opportunities we have ahead of us !
