“ We try to focus a lot on our caregivers . A lot of times they ’ re the burdened [ ones ], especially of a new amputee .” — Monica Prestridge donated to Third World countries where they don ’ t have anything else .”
Most donations the Care Closet receives are from family members of amputees who have passed away .
The Care Closet began to grow quickly , so Prestridge put out feelers on Facebook for space where the supplies could be stored . A 1,000-square-foot retail location was donated , which was more than enough for storage . It also provided a place to hold support group meetings in person and some physical therapy events . In September 2020 , Life Unlimbited moved into the location at 220 Georgia Highway 33 South , Suite 3 .
Midway Baptist Church donated tables and chairs .
“ The building has been a huge blessing to us ,” Prestridge said .
The building enables the group to hold one-onone sessions with amputees and to have separate meetings for caregivers .
“ We try to focus a lot on our caregivers ,” she said . “ A lot of times they ’ re the burdened [ ones ], especially of a new amputee .”
Life Unlimbited has partnered with Southern Bodies Fitness Center in Tifton for a monthly fitness day , which includes exercises the amputees can learn then do at home .
