Benner rescues Crossroads Mission

by Adelia Ladson
Since, I sat down and talked with Dr. Benner for this article, sadly, he has passed away. Colquitt County has truly lost a great man and Christian. It is my hope that this article conveys the depth of feeling and commitment he had to loving people and ministering to them, especially, in their time of need. It is also my hope that this article serves as a tribute to his legacy. His message to us was simple,“ Love God. Love people. That’ s what it’ s all about.”

Dr. Randall Benner has spent a good portion of his life ministering to people in our community.

“ People have fishing, golf, and stuff like that. I don’ t. People are my passion,” he said.“ And so, ministry has been an important part of my life, and I’ ve been blessed to be in several ministries.”“ When I think of my dear friend, Randy Benner, the word‘ founder’ comes to mind. Randy was an integral part and driving force behind the‘ founding’ of these important organizations in our community: Heritage Church, Hope House, Life under the Son, and Crossroads,” said Roy Reeves, co-founder of Heritage Church. Benner did not found Crossroads Gospel Rescue Mission, which opened in 1972, but the mission received a new lease on life when Benner got involved with it in 2018.
“ With Crossroads, Randy was called upon to‘ rescue’ an important but struggling organization in our midst,” said Reeves.“ Randy had the vision to see the value of Crossroads and how it could be reorganized not only to survive but thrive.”
Dr. Randy Benner was chosen as the Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year for 2019.
