Hello and welcome to the August edition of Moultrie Scene !
This edition pays homage to all the strong and dedicated women in our lives , who do it all ! In the words of Beyonce , “ Who runs the world ? Girls !” This magazine was originally meant to showcase the various communities one could get involved in , but as time progressed , stories highlighting trailblazers within communities quickly stood out .
Our cover story and world champion Stacey Croft blew me away with her grilling skills . For the last six years , my dad has hosted a Rib Showdown in Albany , where countless individuals compete for a monetary prize and the acclaim of the best ribs in Albany . I ’ ve stood out there in a t-shirt running the bounce house or helping face paint , and while I often see women there supporting their husbands , I ’ ve seen few women manning the grill . It takes a special woman to not only compete in a man ’ s world , but claim the prize too , and I couldn ’ t have been happier we got to feature this sizzling superstar in our hometown magazine .
It ’ s not just world champions we wanted to recognize , though . Moultrie ’ s Trudie Hill is a star in her own right . She taught Colquitt County students for 55 years , before retiring at the end of the school year .
My mom taught school for 32 years , and at the end of her tenure , she was more than ready to put away the pens and pencils and relax .
Mrs . Hill has without a doubt inspired and touched the lives of more students than she can ever imagine .
Finally , there are the teachers who never envisioned themselves in that role- the homeschool teachers , who have made it their life ’ s work to create a learning environment that suits their children .
All of these accomplishments are ones to be celebrated by women everywhere , and we applaud you . Keep making us proud , ladies !
