Rae Vereen of Moultrie, who was at the market with her young daughter, Brewer, said,
“ We love it, we love this for Moultrie.”
Her message to folks was,“ Support local, come downtown, walk around and see what there is to see.”
Brewer, who’ s 4 years old, seemed quite happy to taste some of the sweets and also watch Oliver perform some magic for her.
I also chatted with Anfernee McDonald, who was the vendor that was selling fresh sourdough items. He and his wife own BigNuff Homestead in Cairo and he said she does all of the baking.
“ We found out about the market here. … well, actually they found us,” he said of how he had gotten involved.
He said their business was online and Bandwagon Brewing Company had found them and asked if they would be one of their first vendors.
“ So, we’ ve been here since the beginning,” he said.
All of the baked goods that they were selling was made from sourdough and included an assortment of items. There were sourdough loaves in different flavors and sourdough bagels. There were also cookies, scones and cinnamon rolls, all made from sourdough.
“ Some of this stuff was baked only a little over an hour ago,” he said of the freshness of the items.
Another patron of the farmers market was Tommie Beth Willis, also of Moultrie, and she said,“ Today’ s market has a lot of vendors, a lot of variety. It’ s a great day for small businesses in downtown Moultrie.”
I heartily agree because downtown Moultrie was absolutely bustling on that“ Second Saturday” between the food trucks parked around the square, the downtown stores’ sidewalk sells and Bandwagon Brewing Company’ s Farmers Market, which made a great addition to the monthly downtown event.
Bandwagon Brewing Company’ s Farmers Market will be happening, not only the second week of April but during Spring Fling, the following weekend, as well. The plans, going forward, are to have the market the second and fourth Saturday of every month, from noon to 4 p. m. Do you have your market bag? I have mine!
