It was joined in 1896 by the Moultrie City School System . The two systems co-existed until 1968 , when Moultrie residents voted to merge with the county ; since then , all public schools in the county have been governed by the Colquitt County Board of Education .
Board of Education
The board consists of six non-partisan members , each elected by district . Terms are four years and staggered so that half the board is up for election every two years . Members vote once a year for chairman and vice-chairman . The Colquitt County Board of Education has maintained the status of “ Exemplary Board ” as designated by the Georgia School Boards Association since 2015 .

Administration
Dan Chappuis will assume the role of Superintendent of the Colquitt County School District on May 1 , 2024 ; Dr . Marni Kirkland is assistant superintendent of curriculum , instruction , and assessment ; Jeremy Jones is the chief financial officer ; and Angela Hobby is the chief officer of district and employee relations . They supervise a school system of 13 schools , one alternative program , one gifted program , and one special needs program serving approximately 8,900 students with an approximate annual operating budget of $ 128 million .
