| Lotus Vs. Last Orders
parked the Elise outside and bought a brace
of Jeroboams. A crowd gathered. Grown men
pretended not to look overly interested whilst
taking sneaky snaps with iPhones. Everyone
smiled at the Elise. Even though it was in
‘Scottish Nude’ blue.
Just outside Reims and roughly en-route is
a place called Gueux, a derelict F1 venue you
might recognise in the pictures, perfect for
some quick pics. A hit of coffee and a squashed
pain au chocolat and we were headed back to
Calais, clock ticking.
Trying avoid the long arm of the Gendarmes
we set a brisk but plausibly legal pace. We just
made the Eurotunnel on time and faced a long
drive back to Leicestershire to catch last orders.
Passing London we went up the M11 and
then eventually cross country via one of my
favourite roads, the B6047. The Elise was in
its element on the hilly b-roads of the home
straight. We dashed into the pub. Time?
10.50pm. Champagne, anyone?
