BETTER RIDER

WHO ’ S IT FOR ?
Riding in the UK has changed a lot over the last few decades ; there ’ s more traffic on the roads , new motoring legislation and the emergence of bad habits like road rage and lane-hogging all play their part . So , post licence training such as an Advanced Rider course is ideal to ensure your riding is up to scratch .
There are many reasons that riders might consider postlicence training , for example those who have just passed their test may feel like they know how to ride the bike , but don ’ t feel so prepared to safely ride on the roads . Alternatively , riders who have many years under their belt might want to check if they ’ ve picked up any bad habits or want to be the best rider they can be . Or some people come back to the saddle after a number of years off and need a boost in confidence . No matter the reason , everyone sees the benefit .
Post licence training can also be fully inclusive for anyone who rides a motorcycle . For example , training with IAM RoadSmart is suitable for anyone regardless of age , gender or disability and is suitable for any stage of their riding journey .
WHAT ’ S INVOLVED ?
There are many forms of post-licence training available , from single sessions through to the Advanced Rider course from IAM RoadSmart . The additional benefit of doing an Advanced course is that it ’ s the qualification required for those interested in becoming a Blood Bike volunteer .
Independent research has shown 70 % of those who received coaching showed significantly better skills in positioning , motorway riding and hazard anticipation . The saying goes that a motorcycle should only be ridden with a smile on your face , and the more confident and competent you are , the easier it is to smile and enjoy your ride .
