Last off is the tool roll. It’s good to keep
all these together in a roll to prevent
them putting holes in your rucksack. From
top to bottom we have:
Reversible end
screwdriver – crosshead and
flathead
Leatherman multi-tool
including sharp knife
Spoke spanner – at top
Front Sprocket circlip – at
top
KTM standard sockets –
Torx 45, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm
Spark plug
8mm spanner
10mm spanner with a
supply of gaffer tape
12mm spanner
2 x 6" adjustable spanners
KTM wheel, plug, float
chamber and headstock
spanner with tyre tool
Tyre lever
Not shown – clean rags
You may have noticed there’s no hand
pump of spare tube – that’s because
Julian runs mousses in his tyres – if you’re
using tubes you will of course need a 21"
tube (can also be used in the rear to get
you out of trouble), a hand pump and a
small bottle of talc (not essential, but
prolongs the life of the tube).
While by no means the definitive toolkit,
the above will do most things you are
going to need to do on a day out on the
trails. We will write another blog soon
covering a more extensive toolkit and
spares list for the adventure rider
traveling far away from home!
