Despite still being dominated by men, women are increasingly establishing
themselves as members of the motorcycle community. Groups and events
such as Babes Ride Out are evidence of this, and there are more and more
clubs and websites for female motorcyclists emerging. A great example of
this is the Global Women Who Ride website, which shares profiles and
interviews with female motorcyclists from around the planet to inspire
others to take up the sport. The Litas (HYPERLINK 2) female motorcycle
collective, born in Utah, now has branches in fourteen different countries.
In the United States, statistics give a clear indication that the number of
younger female bikers is increasing. And in the UK, the Motorcycle Industry
Association is predicting a significant increase in new motorcyclists over the
next few years, driven as much by the advantages of two-wheeled
commuting as by leisure riding.
