Mascot
I know many will have a teddy bear or a Gonk strapped to the bike. This, from
speaking to riders is more a case of fun than any belief that the Gonk provides any
protection. I have noticed that it tends to be a practice more of the motorcycle
explorer or Overlander to have this. Perhaps this is the Wilson Effect (If you’ve seen
Castaway with Tom Hanks). Often we are alone when we ride into distant lands, not
sure where we are, how to speak the language or what is going to happen (I’m itching
for a trip just writing that!) and having something to share that with or talk to (when
no one is around) helps with a degree of culture shock... It also shows that you have a
sense of humour!
