A LOOK BACK AT CHARLEY BOORMAN
I was having a meander through my
archive of articles written and
interviews made over the years I’ve been
writing about adventure travel, and I
came across this. The scene is the NEC
motorcycle show, the month November
and the year 2004. I’d been tasked by
the magazine I was working for at the
time to interview Charley Boorman. He
and Ewan McGregor had only recently
returned from their ride around the
world and they were a hot topic. Charley
and Ewan had met on a film set back in
1997. The movie was called The
Serpent’s Kiss and Ewan had the lead
part. Ewan had made his real mark in
the world of films when he’d played a
lead part in the movie Trainspotting.
The duo had started talking about bikes
and well, the rest is now history.
I made myself a pot of coffee and settled
back to read. Would I like the questions
I’d asked? What did I think all these
years later about the answers Charley
gave me? I knew I’d also be asking
myself questions about how things had
changed in the world of overlanding
since 2004. Better or worse?
My article began with this intro:
