Around the world rider and four time author Sam Manicom has a look at Charley Boorman from over 10 years ago when it all started with LWR. A LOOK BACK AT CHARLEY BOORMAN I was having a meander through my archive of articles written and interviews made over the years I’ve been writing about adventure travel, and I came across this. The scene is the NEC motorcycle show, the month November and the year 2004. I’d been tasked by the magazine I was working for at the time to interview Charley Boorman. He and Ewan McGregor had only recently returned from their ride around the world and they were a hot topic. Charley and Ewan had met on a film set back in 1997. The movie was called The Serpent’s Kiss and Ewan had the lead part. Ewan had made his real mark in the world of films when he’d played a lead part in the movie Trainspotting. The duo had started talking about bikes and well, the rest is now history. I made myself a pot of coffee and settled back to read. Would I like the questions I’d asked? What did I think all these years later about the answers Charley gave me? I knew I’d also be asking myself questions about how things had changed in the world of overlanding since 2004. Better or worse? My article began with this intro:
