Travel Story: russell cook - vietnam
We had 3 days in Hanoi before the motorbike tour
started. This is totally recommended. You get a
chance to acclimatise, get over jet lag and Hanoi
has LOTs of things to see. Our hotel was in the old
quarter so great for getting around. In the 3 days
we did plenty of walking. Including the night
markets where we had local street food which was
really fresh and tasty. The Women’s Museum. The
National Museum. One evening we went for a walk
through the French quarter. The Central bank and
metropolitan hotel are beautiful buildings, albeit
very different. The bank is communist era, the hotel
colonial.
Vietnam coffee is very strong and a bit chocolatey. I
learnt, if you have it over ice, the ice kills some of
the bitterness. Vietnam is a hot, humid country –
black iced coffee is great. Cost anywhere from
AUD$1 to $3.
A VERY nice hotel for the price, about $40 per room
per night. The staff were very helpful, friendly and
efficient during our stay. They helped with SIM
activation and the restaurant for breakfast had
absolutely lovely scrambled eggs, a selection of
fresh fruit and fruit juices. Rooms were clean, air
conditioned and big enough with good WiFi. The
location is great for the exploring the old quarter.
This hotel is highly recommended.
