T
he Parachilna Pub is famous for its Feral Feast, a platter consisting of kangaroo, camel and emu.
Although very tempting, I opted for a standard Kangaburger to satisfy my hunger. Back at Angorichna
dozens of off-road riders had arrived and the sweet smell of two-stroke hung in the air.
Over the next few days I learned more about riding on gravel than I could ever have hoped to learn by
myself. Although I didn’t venture out on the extreme tracks, I tackled the Mortana loop with great
confidence and was rather proud of my achievements – until I learned that Kipo had taken his Postie up Mt
Samuel and realised I had a lot to learn yet.
The ADV gang were all amazed that a novice was about to tackle the Oodnadatta Track which served to
make me even more nervous about my decision. When they learned that I had never even repaired a
puncture they wandered away shaking their heads.
I was determined to attempt the Track – how bad could it be?
